GENERAL ATOMICS ENERGY PRODUCTS SELECTED TO SUPPORT ZOLL MEDICAL AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR PRODUCTION General Atomics Energy Products (GAEP) announced today that it has received high volume production orders for two different compact high voltage capacitors used in automated external defibrillators (AED) designed by ZOLL Medical Corporation (www.zoll.com). A total of over 70,000 capacitors are to be delivered under the new orders. ZOLL Medical Corporation designs, manufactures and markets an integrated line of proprietary noninvasive cardiac resuscitation devices, disposable electrodes, mobile ECG systems, and EMS data management solutions. Used by health care professionals to provide both types of cardiac resuscitation - pacing and defibrillation - these products are essential in the emergency treatment of cardiac arrest victims both inside and outside the hospital. The designs incorporated into ZOLL’s AED were custom-designed, high energy density pulse discharge capacitors developed in the 1980’s and refined over time for this state-of-the art application. One key feature of the GAEP capacitors designed for the ZOLL AED application is their self-healing metallized construction. With this technology, the energy density of the capacitor can be increased dramatically while maintaining high reliability. The energy density of the GAEP capacitors exceeds 1 J/cc. GAEP is a part of General Atomics Electronic Systems Inc. an affiliate company of General Atomics. The capacitor product line, established in 1965 and originally part of Maxwell Technologies, Inc., was purchased by General Atomics in March 2000. General Atomics Electronic Systems Inc. also designs and manufactures high voltage power supplies, radiation monitoring systems, and terminal automation products. |
