GENERAL ATOMICS ACQUIRES TWO LINES OF BUSINESS FROM MAXWELL ENERGY PRODUCTS, INC. General Atomics of San Diego, California, has acquired the assets of the Wound Capacitor and High Voltage Power Supply lines of business of Maxwell Energy Products, Inc., also located in San Diego. The transaction, effective March 1, was consummated for an undisclosed amount of cash. Under terms of the agreement, GA will employ approximately 80 former Maxwell employees, and will occupy the facility at 4949 Greencraig Street in San Diego, where the business will remain. "Maxwell is the world's leading supplier of high energy density, high voltage capacitors and related equipment," said John Rawls, GA's Vice President of the Electromagnetic Systems Division. "There will be an excellent synergy with a number of activities at General Atomics, including the electrical power equipment to be supplied for the Navy's Electromagnetic Aircraft Launcher System (EMALS), as well as power conversion equipment used in mass transit." The former Maxwell group involved in this transaction is a major supplier of equipment to the Department of Energy's National Ignition Facility and other national laboratory projects, and is active in the supply of defibrillators used in the treatment of heart attacks. The group also provides specialized power equipment for lasers and other pulsed power systems. General Atomics, a leading U.S. high-technology company, is engaged in diversified research and development and manufacturing in energy, defense, and other advanced technologies. |
